Any structure that has any form of telecommunications will require telecommunications wiring & cabling. In the United States, there are specific standards for cabling and wiring systems that are intended for telecommunications. This is known as the EIA/TIA-568 Standard. In early 1985, companies representing the telecommunications and information systems industries were concerned with the lack of standards for building telecommunications wiring and cabling systems. The Computer Communications Industry Association (CCIA) requested that the Electronics Industries Association (EIA) develop the necessary standards, which took approximately six years to complete. In July of 1991, the EIA/TIA-568 Commercial Building Telecommunications Wiring Standard was published.
